  • Mission Statement:

THE CITIZEN  for Social Responsibility was created as an educational tool, which seeks to examine critical issues in our society that are not being addressed by motivating public debate and discussion.  It is solely an enterprise which does not seek profit as its reason to exist.

  • Code of Ethics: ( excerpts from our founding documents )

WE BELIEVE that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy.  The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair comprehensive account of events and issues... As members of this organization's publishing sector, we share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code and declare these principles and standards of practice as our ideal.

  1.   SEEK THE TRUTH and PUBLISH IT

  • test accuracy, identify sources, never oversimplify, never plagiarize, tell the unpopular story, examine cultural values in an egalitarian and non-judgmental manner, avoid and refute stereotypes, provide a voice to the voiceless-- official or unofficial sources of information...

  2.   BE HONEST and ETHICAL

  • avoid conflicts of interest, remain free of associations and activities that compromise integrity or damage credibility, refuse gifts, favors, fees or other employment and service in community organizations if they compromise integrity... disclose unavoidable conflicts of interest.

  3.   BE ACCOUNTABLE

  • present public interest information, encourage public to express opinions and address grievances, admit mistakes and correct them promptly, expose unethical practices in society...

  4.   BE VIGILANT and COURAGEOUS

  • dare to be unorthodox...
